      Join the National Society of Black Engineers Baltimore Metropolitan Area Chapter (NSBE-BMAC) as we celebrate 30 years of positively impacting the Baltimore Metropolitan area! In celebration of the chapter’s 30th Anniversary, we will be providing special recognition through Pre-Collegiate and Collegiate Chapter Excellence Awards, the William Thomas Batten Jr. Leadership Award, and Legacy Achievement Awards.  This special evening will be hosted at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture. Easter Director, Navy Staff Chief of Naval Operations  Awards: NSBE Jr & Collegiate Chapter Excellence AwardsThe NSBE-BMAC Chapter Excellence Awards are granted to reward pre-college and collegiate chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in the Baltimore metropolitan area for excellence in pursuing the NSBE mission of increasing “the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” William Thomas Batten Jr. Leadership Award William Thomas Batten worked for Westinghouse/Northrop Grumman Corporation for over 32 years and served as an executive board member for NSBE-BMAC and supported multiple chapter events and activities. To honor the contributions of Mr. Batten to the advancement of NSBE-BMAC, the engineering profession, his community, and all who were privileged to know him NSBE-BMAC established the William Thomas Batten Jr. leadership award in July 2011 to offer financial support to college students who are pursuing studies in Science, Engineering, Technology, or Mathematics (STEM), exhibiting the virtues of the NSBE mission, and are serving in leadership positions at the collegiate level. NSBE-BMAC Legacy Achievement Awards The NSBE-BMAC Legacy Achievement Award is an inaugural award that will be given at NSBE-BMAC's 30th Anniversary Gala. It will be given to select individuals who have made a substantial impact in the STEM arena either in academics, innovation or community service in the Baltimore city or the surrounding areas. These individuals have epitomized the mission of NSBE to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.Dr. James E. WestDr. West has authored numerous journal and conference proceedings papers, and holds over 250 patents. West was inducted into The National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1999 for the invention of the electret microphone.  West is the recipient of  the Acoustical Society of America's Silver and Gold Medals in Engineering Acoustics, the National Medal of Technology,  and the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Engineering. He is currently a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.Mrs. Earnestine BakerEarnestine Baker is the retired Assistant to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and currently serves as the Executive Director-Emerita of the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).  Since 1993, over 1100 Meyerhoff Scholars have graduated; 283 scholars are currently enrolled in graduate and professional schools; 314 PhDs completed; 59 MD/PhDs completed; with 281 scholars currently enrolled at UMBC.Dr. Eugene M. DeLoatchDr. DeLoatch served as the Inaugural Dean of the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. School of Engineering at Morgan State University.  From 2002 to 2015, Dr. DeLoatch’s degree granting programs at Morgan State University, led the Nation in the production of African American electrical and civil engineers at the baccalaureate level. Upon his retirement in 2016, he received a personal letter from the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, congratulating him for being the “Best of the Best” in the field of engineering.
